Memory built museum, and then museum built memory.

Memory sits in museum until closing time. Museum lays down in memory and falls asleep.

What could a museum dedicated to trans masculine histories become?

As part of their EAF25 commission, Memory is a Museum, artist and researcher Ellis Jackson Kroese created an exhibition guide for the fictional Museum of Trans Masculinity.

The 28-page printed guide imagines three exhibitions exploring aspects of masculine-leaning gender diversity in Scottish history: male impersonators in early 20th Century Scotland, the life of Ewan Forbes, and depictions of gender diversity in Scottish press. The text is threaded through with questions that challenge the role of museums, as arbiters of history and memory.

The guide is accompanied by inserts of printed poetry and a photographic postcard, and packed in a screen-printed glassine envelope.

Created and printed in collaboration with Erin Jackson Raynes.
